“Diane Hill is a highly skilled painter and chinoiserie expert who makes unique designs for interior surfaces.

Diane has been trained by master painters in China in the art of chinoiserie and traditional techniques, where she learned to use natural brushes designed for using watercolours on silk. This training has added to the wealth of knowledge she gained in her degree in textile design and the six years she spent as a senior designer at one of the UK’s leading hand-made wallpaper companies.

Diane designs and creates her work at her home in Hertfordshire, where she lives with her husband and two children. Her home studio has been built with large overhead windows that flood it with natural light, providing the ideal setting for selecting colours and textures for each project, whether it is hand-painting pure silk or designing wallpaper embellished with gold leaf. She draws on inspiration from historical reference books, Asian art and ancient techniques, to tastefully adapt classic designs for modern interiors.

Since launching her own business in 2016, Diane’s work has seen her fill the interior of London restaurant Cinnamon Bazaar with chinoiserie and bespoke patterns, as well as chinoiserie panels to hang inside Manor House Lindley, a luxury five star wedding venue in Huddersfield, where she also hand-painted an 8 meter high wall.

She is skilled in restoration, and has previously repaired an antique chinoiserie room, while her work in creating new designs in this art form led her to appear on the BBC. The textured designs and chinoiserie she has painted throughout her own home have also been featured in a number of publications, from Vogue to The English Home.
