Cruse scanner

The Cruse scanner provides a unique way of digitising cultural objects. It has a horizontal bed and the object lies flat with no physical contact on its surface. The lighting is absolutely even, custom colour-profiled and the image is very high-resolution. Gentle suction pressure to pull the object flat onto the scanner bed can be applied if appropriate and safe.

It can be used to digitise the most fragile objects safely. It has been used to scan large paper objects such as maps and plans, large rolls of textile, framed paintings, wooden boards and swords, among many other fine art objects. Resolution, subject thickness, light clearance height and light angle can all be adjusted to achieve the optimum result. The Cruse scanner has proved to be the perfect tool for the digitisation of cultural objects.

Scanning with this equipment ensures that the safety of large art works is guaranteed. There is no contact with the original art work surface and handling of the object is minimised as the object is placed flat, face-up, on the horizontal scanning bed.

Objects up to 1m x 1.5m can be scanned in a single pass making a file up to 1.4Gb, if necessary.

File Types

CHD will produce colour-managed digital files that fulfil all the quality control criteria recommended by UK and EU funding bodies. They would be suitable for any national museum and we would expect these to match all the expectations of the client.

All files supplied will be 16-bit Tiff files, between 300Mb and 1.4Gb. All files will be supplied in Adobe 1998 RGB, Pro Photo RGB or any colour-space preferred by the client with an appropriate embedded colour profile.
