CHD Ltd announces the first recipient artist in their Emerging Artist Support Programme, Amer Ismail. The programme forms a grant for professional documentation of valuable artworks. Amer Ismail is a New York-born, Malaysian architect-turned-artist, based in London. He graduated with a Diploma in Architecture and Masters in Urban Design from Oxford Brookes University, UK. He has worked for some of the most distinguished names in the industry, including Norman Foster and Thomas Heatherwick. Working primarily on ink on paper, Amer Ismail investigates memory, society and creativity.
He is now embarking on an ambitious series of drawings, an intricate network of circular motion suspended in space and time, drawing inspiration from the history of art and key philosophical ideas.
Working almost every moment for the past 2 years, the accessibility of his materials allow him to work at any time, anywhere, including on buses, trains and planes. Amer had his first show at Cuadro Fine Art in Dubai which opened on the 12th November 2018, coinciding with Galleries Week in Dubai. His latest show was at the National Art Gallery in Malaysia between Jan and March 2020.
